Reminder: Toxovax Orders
posted on Wed, 12 Jun 2024

Thankfully, the 2024 supply for the toxoplasmosis vaccine is looking promising! That being said, we can never guarantee reliable supply and so we recommend placing your orders as soon as possible.

Key Points to Remember:

¨ Toxovax has a very short shelf-life of around 7-10 days.

¨ Orders must be placed in advance with a planned dispatch date to work with your schedule.

¨ Vaccines can be purchased in batches. You don’t need to commit to vaccinating all of your ewes in one go. This is especially beneficial for those who are unsure on how many replacements will be...

Coccidiosis Risk Period!
posted on Tue, 9 Apr 2024

Within the practice we are currently seeing an increasing number of cases of coccidiosis. This time of year sees high numbers of young lambs, often in intensive situations - a prime environment for Coccidia.

Coccidiosis remains one of the most commercially import diseases of young lambs. As the lambing season progresses and the number of susceptible lambs on farm increases, coccidiosis can appear, sometimes as an explosive outbreak. Infections usually occur between 3 and 12 weeks of age, sometimes older. It causes not only damaging clinical signs - including bloody scours and weight...

Nematodirus Risk Alert!
posted on Mon, 8 Apr 2024

The Nematodirus forecast for the East Midlands has risen to 'High / Very High Risk'!

Nematodirus can strike very quickly. You cannot afford to have a 'wait and see' policy!

Damage caused by Nematodirus is from large numbers of immature larvae that are not yet producing eggs. Therefore, faecal egg counts (FECs), are not a reliable indicator of risk. Rapid action is essential!

Risk factors:

  • Pasture: Pasture grazed by ewes and lambs last year is extremely high risk. Avoid if possible.
  • Weather: Nematodirus thrive in wet and warm weather (like now!)...

Lambing Kit List
posted on Fri, 19 Jan 2024

Any spare minute during lambing is better spent resting with a cuppa rather than dashing in to the vets practice or ag store for emergency supplies.

Check your medicine cabinet and kit stash to ensure you have everything you need (remember to check expiry dates!). Make a list of anything you are missing and pick these up ahead of the chaotic lambing period.

We have put together a list of kit we think you may need - just click 'read more' to expand the image and get some inspiration for your supplies.
