Flock Health Planning
By analysing data and reviewing past performance and disease patterns, we can identify where improvements can be made. The aim is to improve the health, welfare and profitability of your flock. We can produce tailored parasite control plans and vaccination plans for your flock to implement preventative tactics. We can tackle areas of concern through disease investigation and therapeutic treatments as well as bettering management protocols to ensure your flock are in optimum shape for breeding and rearing.
Ram MOT
Are your rams up to the job? Rams have a huge impact on economical returns for flock. Therefore, it is vital for them to have optimal fertility. A ram MOT and fertility test consists of a full health check and examination of reproductive organs. We recommend testing your rams every year at least 10 weeks before the breeding season is due to start.
Lameness
Sheep lameness is undoubtedly one of the most important health and welfare issues facing UK flocks. It causes visible pain, reduced performance and costs the industry millions of pounds in terms of production loss; labour; treatments and premature culling. But we are here to help you tackle it!
We encourage following ‘The Five Point Plan’ – a long-term management programme designed to reduce lameness in your flock. It incorporates both preventative and therapeutic approaches to managing the condition. By implementing the five points of the plan together, the incidence can be reduced to less than 1% from the second year onwards.
Disease Investigation
Do you have concerns over the health and productivity of your flock? Are your lambs failing to meet weight targets? Have you experienced lower scanning rates or seen an increased rate of abortions? Has there been a higher incidence of lameness or mastitis in your flock? Are your ewes looking weak or poor condition? We have the ability to perform a range of diagnostics to get to the bottom of the problem. Our aim is for your flock to perform to their potential to maximise profitability and ensure good health and welfare. CLICK HERE to see some of our diagnostics.
Biosecurity Review
Good biosecurity is extremely important and essential to protect farm profitability. There are many simple precautions that can be taken to improve your farm efficiency, protect neighbouring farms and the countryside, and safeguard animal and human health. A biosecurity regime must be tailored to the needs of your farm.
Together, we can put together a great plan for your farm taking into account: quarantine procedures; monitoring and maintaining flock health status; hygiene and cleanliness – predominantly during lambing; and good housing and field maintenance.
